Overview

Route x Rebel is an independent overlanding and adventure route planning tool. This policy describes what personal data we collect, how it is used, and your rights under applicable law including the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) and the California Online Privacy Protection Act (CalOPPA).

What Data We Collect

We collect only the minimum data required to operate the service. Specifically, we collect your email address to create and manage your account, and we receive confirmation from Stripe that a valid payment method is on file. We never see, handle, or store your card number, expiry date, or CVV. We do not collect your name, address, phone number, or any other personal information beyond your email.

Route data, saved routes, API keys, and app preferences are stored exclusively in your own browser's localStorage. This data never leaves your device and is not transmitted to or stored on our servers.

How We Use Your Data

Your email address is used solely to authenticate your account and send subscription-related transactional communications such as payment receipts and renewal notices. We do not use your data for advertising, profiling, or marketing purposes. We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with any third party for their own commercial purposes, under any circumstances.

Third-Party Services

Route x Rebel relies on the following independent third-party services. Each operates under its own privacy policy and terms of service, which govern their collection and use of your data. We have no control over and accept no responsibility for the data practices of these services.

Stripe: processes all payments and manages subscription billing. Your payment details are entered directly into Stripe's PCI-compliant checkout environment and are never transmitted to or stored by Route x Rebel.

Auth0: manages account authentication and login. Your email address is stored within Auth0's infrastructure for the purpose of identity verification.

Geoapify and MapTiler: provide routing calculations and map imagery respectively. You register for these services independently and supply your own free API keys directly within the app. Route x Rebel does not transmit, store, or have any access to your API keys or your activity on these platforms.

OpenStreetMap / Overpass API: provides map and road data via real-time queries. No account is required and no persistent data is stored by this service in connection with your use of Route x Rebel.

Cookies and Local Storage

Route x Rebel uses two strictly necessary session cookies: rxr_token, which maintains your authenticated session, and rxr_plan, which temporarily stores your selected subscription plan during checkout. These cookies are required for the service to function and do not track behaviour or collect personal data. We do not use tracking, analytics, advertising, or third-party cookies of any kind. The app uses your browser's localStorage solely to store your API keys, saved routes, app preferences, and your acceptance of the in-app disclaimer. This data is stored locally on your device only and is not accessible to us. You can clear this data at any time through your browser settings.

Data Retention and Deletion

The only personal data Route x Rebel holds directly is your email address, stored via Auth0, and your subscription status, stored via Supabase. If you wish to have this data deleted, you may submit a written request to [email protected]. We will process your request within 30 days and confirm deletion of your Auth0 identity record and Supabase subscription record.

Data held by third-party services must be managed directly with those services. To delete your Stripe payment and billing history, you must contact Stripe directly. Your Geoapify and MapTiler accounts are entirely independent and must be managed through those platforms respectively. Route x Rebel has no ability to act on your behalf with respect to data held by these third parties.

California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA)

If you are a California resident, you have the following rights under the CCPA: the right to know what personal information we collect and how it is used; the right to request deletion of your personal information; and the right to non-discrimination for exercising your privacy rights. As stated above, Route x Rebel does not sell personal information. To exercise your CCPA rights, submit a written request to [email protected]. We will respond within 45 days as required by law.

Age Restriction

Route x Rebel is not directed at or intended for use by individuals under the age of 16. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 16. If we become aware that a user is under 16, we will terminate their account and delete any associated data without notice.

Changes to This Policy

We reserve the right to update this policy at any time. The date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision. Your continued use of Route x Rebel following any changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy. It is your responsibility to review this policy periodically.

Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using Route x Rebel, including creating an account, starting a free trial, or paying for a subscription, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service in their entirety. If you do not agree to every provision of these terms, you must immediately cease all use of the service. These terms constitute the entire agreement between you and Route x Rebel with respect to your use of the service.

The Service: Planning Tool Only

Route x Rebel is a web-based route planning tool for overlanding and adventure travel. It provides route calculation, dirt road discovery, land use overlays, points of interest, map layer switching, and GPX/KML file export. The service is provided strictly as a planning aid. It is not a navigation system, a safety tool, or a substitute for local knowledge, offline maps, or professional guidance. You must not rely solely on Route x Rebel for navigation in any environment, particularly in remote or off-road areas.

Route x Rebel makes no representation that any route, road classification, land access indication, or point of interest shown within the application is accurate, current, legal to access, or safe to travel. All route data is derived from third-party sources including OpenStreetMap, which is community-contributed and may contain errors, omissions, or outdated information.

Assumption of Risk

You expressly acknowledge and agree that overlanding, off-road travel, and adventure motorcycling involve inherent risks including but not limited to vehicle damage, getting lost, trespass onto private or restricted land, injury, and death. By using Route x Rebel, you voluntarily assume all such risks. Route x Rebel and its developer accept no responsibility whatsoever for any outcome arising from your use of the application or your travel on any route it generates.

Subscription, Trial, and Payment

Route x Rebel is offered on a paid subscription basis. A 7-day free trial is available. A valid credit card is required to begin the trial. If you do not cancel before the trial period ends, your payment method will be automatically charged at the applicable subscription rate. By providing your payment details, you authorise Route x Rebel to charge your payment method on a recurring basis until you cancel.

Current subscription rates are $4.99 USD per month (billed monthly) or $34.99 USD per year (billed annually). Route x Rebel reserves the right to change pricing at any time. Active subscribers will be notified of price changes before they take effect.

All payments are processed by Stripe. Route x Rebel never receives or stores your card details. Payment disputes, chargebacks, and billing errors must be raised directly with Stripe or your card issuer.

Cancellation and Refund Policy

You may cancel your subscription at any time through your account settings. Cancellation takes effect at the end of your current billing period. You will retain full access to the service until that date. Route x Rebel does not issue refunds for any unused portion of a paid billing period, except where expressly required by applicable law. Trial cancellations made before the trial ends will not result in any charge.

Service Availability and Modifications

Route x Rebel is provided on an "as available" basis. We do not guarantee uninterrupted access and accept no liability for downtime, outages, or degraded performance. We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue the service, or any feature within it, at any time and without prior notice. We reserve the right to terminate any account, with or without cause, at any time and without notice or liability to you.

Acceptable Use

You agree to use Route x Rebel solely for lawful personal planning purposes. You must not: share your account credentials or permit others to access the service using your subscription; attempt to reverse engineer, decompile, disassemble, or extract the source code of the application; use automated scripts, bots, or tools to access the service in any manner not intended; reproduce, distribute, or commercially exploit any part of the service or its content without written permission; or use the service in any way that violates applicable local, state, or federal law.

Intellectual Property

All source code, design, branding, visual assets, and written content comprising Route x Rebel are the exclusive intellectual property of Route x Rebel and its developer, protected under applicable copyright and intellectual property law. The Route x Rebel name, logo, and brand identity may not be reproduced or used in any form without prior written permission. Map data, road data, and satellite imagery are subject to the terms of their respective third-party providers.

Disclaimer of Warranties

ROUTE X REBEL IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED. TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, ROUTE X REBEL AND ITS DEVELOPER EXPRESSLY DISCLAIM ALL WARRANTIES INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, ACCURACY, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE MAKE NO WARRANTY THAT THE SERVICE WILL MEET YOUR REQUIREMENTS, OPERATE WITHOUT INTERRUPTION, OR BE FREE FROM ERRORS OR HARMFUL COMPONENTS.

Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, IN NO EVENT SHALL ROUTE X REBEL OR ITS DEVELOPER BE LIABLE FOR ANY DIRECT, INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, PUNITIVE, OR EXEMPLARY DAMAGES OF ANY KIND, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO PERSONAL INJURY, DEATH, PROPERTY DAMAGE, VEHICLE DAMAGE, TRESPASS, FINES, LEGAL PENALTIES, LOSS OF DATA, LOSS OF PROFITS, OR ANY OTHER LOSS ARISING OUT OF OR IN CONNECTION WITH YOUR USE OF OR INABILITY TO USE THE SERVICE OR ANY ROUTE GENERATED BY IT, EVEN IF ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES. YOUR SOLE REMEDY FOR DISSATISFACTION WITH THE SERVICE IS TO STOP USING IT.

Where liability cannot be excluded entirely under applicable law, our total liability to you for any claim shall not exceed the amount you paid for the service in the three months immediately preceding the event giving rise to the claim.

Indemnification

You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless Route x Rebel and its developer from and against any and all claims, damages, losses, costs, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of or relating to your use of the service, your violation of these terms, or your violation of any applicable law or third-party right.

Governing Law

These Terms of Service shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of California, United States, without regard to its conflict of law provisions. Any dispute arising under these terms shall be resolved exclusively in the state or federal courts located in California, and you consent to personal jurisdiction in those courts.

No Class Actions

You agree that any dispute with Route x Rebel will be conducted solely on an individual basis and not as part of any class, consolidated, or representative action. You waive any right to participate in a class action lawsuit or class-wide arbitration against Route x Rebel.

Age Restriction

You must be at least 16 years of age to use Route x Rebel. By using the service, you represent and warrant that you are 16 or older. We reserve the right to terminate any account we determine to belong to a user under 16 without notice or refund.

Changes to These Terms

Route x Rebel reserves the right to revise these Terms of Service at any time. The date at the top of this page will reflect the most recent update. Your continued use of the service following the posting of any changes constitutes your acceptance of those changes. It is your sole responsibility to review these terms periodically. We are under no obligation to notify you of changes, though we may choose to do so for material revisions.
